My wife and I have had many experiences of sharing through our many years of living abroad. The shared lifestyle of living with friends or strangers, where you can support each other mentally as well as financially, is very common and deeply rooted in the culture of other countries.
The main difference from Japan is that it is not for business purposes. This may be because the underlying spirit is one of enjoying life itself, so that both the lessor and the lessee can lead a relaxed (and sometimes stimulating) life together.
Our aim is not just to live together, but to share a home and care for each other.
